SAPD unveils commemorative Tricentennial badge

Commemorative Badges

The City of San Antonio will celebrate its 300th anniversary during 2018 with events planned throughout the year. To participate in honoring the City’s long history, Chief McManus has authorized the design and production of a commemorative badge for the San Antonio Police Department.

The SAPD Tricentennial badge is truly unique!  Round in shape and 2 5/8 inches in diameter, will be finished in antique silver or brass depending on rank.  The badge was specifically designed to be high quality with intricate 3-D detailing, but light weight for comfort when worn.

The badge will also displays elements of San Antonio’s humble beginnings, including the Spanish coat-of-arms (Spain claimed control in the Americas), the Franciscan seal (Franciscan missionaries longed to spread Christianity to indigenous people of south Texas), and an image of the Governor of Coahuila and Texas, Martín de Alarcón, who established and named both Mission San Antonio de Valero (later known as the Alamo) and the Presidio San Antonio de Béxar, a garrison to protect the mission
